Sneak Preview: Rasbarri photo shoot

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Brandon Smith, an incredible photographer who spent the day prancing around with my friend Ruby and I, taking shots of us wearing some new Rasbarri looks. What a great day.

We started out at Humphry Slocombe, an Ice cream shop known for their flavors, i.e. Jesus Juice and Government Cheese? Yes, fantastic.  We then headed to the famous Balmy Alley for a sweet backdrop.  We ended the day at Baker Beach and caffeinated ourselves at a tea house, Samovar in Hayes Valley.

Ruby looked absolutely amazing and my new priority is persuading her to quit her day job to pursue modeling full time.
Thank you, Rubes.

Below are a few behind the scenes shots taken by my #studmuffin

The Rasbarri "look"...

I spent a few hours yesterday evening creating what seemed like an entirely new collection.  I recreated some staple Rasbarri pieces, but mostly new designs.  There are two shops that I've been in  this past year (thanks to my stud for introducing me to them) that made me realize what design aesthetic I'm hoping to emulate in my jewelry.

I'm not sure what to even call it.  The first store is in San Francisco near Ocean Beach, called The General Store.  I don't know what it is about this shop, but they have really chic and simple home goods, clothing and jewelry.  The other shop was attached to the Presidio Hotel I stayed at in Santa Barbara, CA called The Supply Room.  Same look, a real natural feel (and dammit I should have bought those shoes because I'm STILL dreaming about them). You know what I'm talking about.

Adding new pieces every day but below are a few that I came up with that really match the same feel.

All are available in my shop minus the first one (will be added later this week)

Enjoy!

Rasbarri feature..Get the look

One of my recent web finds and daily reads is a blog called Running on Happiness.  Katie, the CEG (Chief Executive Officer of being Gorgeous) as I'd like to put it, featured the Onyx Drape Necklace from my latest collection.

Not only was I thrilled to see one of my creations worn so elegantly, but this piece was actually created out of ordinary fashion.  I had been visiting family in Lake Tahoe, CA when this idea came to mind...and was born.

Here are Katie's looks from yesterday:

My Secret ...to organizing jewelry.

Let's face it, there isn't ONE fool proof way to store your jewelry.

I want to have it in clear view, be inspired by it and then hide it when I'm done.  If you're like me, you normally don't end up wearing or switching up your jewelry enough because it's not easily accessible.

Another trend seems to be hanging your jewelry from frames or on your wall.  I don't like the idea of my jewelry being seen and accessible by all lurking creatures, however aesthetically pleasing that may be.
Below is my secret to stashing, yet optimizing your collection.
Anthropologie has a great selection of colorful Ikat bowls OR have more fun thrifting vintage teacups and saucers.

What I'm loving, lately.

Perhaps this is another obsession that will come and go, but I'm really digging the native american styles popping up on this here web.

Free People has been a favorite brand of mine for years.  Similar look and style...so life makes sense now.

I came across the items below over the past few months and saved them to my Pinterest boards.  I dare not lose sight of such pretty things.

I included some new Rasbarri styles to pair with what I'm loving, lately.  Some newbies with similar style new in Shop today.

Personal Style.

Do you ever wonder why you're attracted to certain styles or selected colors of clothing?  We like certain things and we stick to them.  You know who you are.  Your closet is full of black, dark denim and for some weird reason you refuse to wear anything except hot pink socks.

I've been teased that my closet looks cream colored and all things flowy.  Where did that begin?  I don't know when or why it started, but I'm continuously drawn to delicate jewelry.  I can't get enough of our delicate Tiny Heart Necklace.  I made a few more today and took some new photos.

The face behind it all.

I sometimes wonder who the creator is behind most of the shops on Etsy.  Are they mostly older women, perhaps with an admiration for feline animals?  Are most of them college students, crafty kids who study by day and create during the wee hours?  Are they dudes?! Guys who maybe ride their fixie bikes during the day, have cupcake tattoos and make manly stuff with their sewing machine at night?

If you haven't checked out Regretsy you should.  I can't believe some of the stuff I see on there. It's right up my alley, in terms of humor.  I sit there with a planted grin on my face -  on the verge of laughing, at every post.  It's too much.

The face behind Rasbarri is me, Vanessa Barri.  Hence, Rasbarri.  I enjoy right-brained activities.

Packaging.

I've received a lot of packages in my day, especially from Etsy.

It's quite impressive how much care and creativity each Etsy seller usually puts into their packaging alone.  Of course there's the exception;  those who throw items in a bag, ship it out and pray to the mail gods it arrives in once piece.  You miraculously receive the package and wonder why you bought anything from them in the first place!

I'm constantly finding great packaging ideas on Pinterest and Etsy - there are so many options, it's tough to settle on one look.

For now, each Rasbarri arrives in a 100% recycled jewelry box, tied with twine and a hand written note.

Keep it Fresh.

I too, get comfortable wearing my favorite staple necklaces, over and over and over.  Snooze-town!  I think it's important to keep it fresh and go outside your comfort zone as much as you can.

I wanted to create a simple necklace  (surprise, surprise) that had a little something extra to it.  I created these drape necklaces for a day-to- night style.

How it all comes together.

I was happy to load up my Etsy shop yesterday with a few new necklaces.  The new pieces are longer in length, with different structure and shape.  They're still on the daintier side, as I like to keep it!

I originally got this idea after seeing Gwen Stefani's new Spring 2012 line here.  Not only would I love to emulate everything about her personal style, but the jewelry preview for Spring is rad.  Seeing a lot of triangles and different shapes with loads of color.  I kept L.A.M.B in mind when I created these new pieces.  Enjoy!
